Alex Cares Inc., a creator of innovative initiatives and partnerships is a nonprofit incubator and accelerator. We partner with non-profit organizations offering grief and trauma informed approaches in the area of childhood bereavement, loss and grief and youth development.
We have a demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion, since our founding in early 2016.
Alex Cares Inc. is a non profit tax exempt charitable foundation and is an approved 501(c)(3) organization under the Internal Revenue Code. All contributions are tax-deductible.

APPROACH
Our belief in the power of young people to explore and understand their story in the face of loss is central to our mission. This exploration creates a meaningful canvas for youth to find the tools and resources, that help them realize that their loss is not their whole story, but a key piece to what and who they will become.

We invest resources in specific initiatives that complement our approach to igniting civic engagement. We focus on strategic partnerships that we develop proactively to enhance the impact of our work. Given this strategy, we regret that we are unable to review or consider letters of inquiry and unsolicited grant proposals.
OUR FOUNDER
Amy Liebman Rapp, M.S.Ed., CT has helped transform not for profit organizations and businesses utilizing collaboration, innovation, mentorship, and strategic thinking. She is a nationally recognized authority in childhood and young adult bereavement with hands- on experience in a variety of settings.
With her strategic vision as Granting Director (2002-2006), Managing Director (2006-2012) and Program Design and Strategy Consultant (2013-2016) of A Little Hope, Inc. ( founded by Whitney and Evan Michaels after the September 11th World Trade Center Tragedy) - the organization became a national foundation for grieving children, teens and families. A Little Hope is the first national organization dedicated to raising money to advance the growth of children’s grief support and the expansion of bereavement centers, camps and school programs for grieving children and teens across the United States. Under Amy's leadership, the foundation partnered with 94 organizations in 39 states directly impacting the lives of more than 250,000 youth..
Amy served (2003-2008) as a member of the Adjunct Faculty of the College of New Rochelle Graduate School, where she was an internship supervisor of the students in the Gerontology/Thanatology program. She has previously served as a provider for both the New York State Child Care Educational Incentive Program and the Partnership for After School Education, conducting workshops and trainings throughout the state. She was an on-site grief counselor and provided crisis response services for the AON Corporation in New York and Greenwich, CT. after the September 11th World Trade Center tragedy. She also served as a caseworker for the American Red Cross of Greater New York Family Gift Program Long Term Recovery Project.
Prior to entering the bereavement field, Amy was a highly respected custom bath & kitchen cabinet designer, sales and marketing professional, CEO and management consultant in the residential construction industry throughout the northeast United States. Her second career developed as a single parent, after the death of her husband in August 1991. Amy is the Founder & Director of The Sanctuary and The Sanctuary National Grief Support Network®.
Her professional affiliations include: Exponent Philanthropy; Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC); and the National Alliance for Children's Grief (NACG), of which she is a founding board member.

Kevin has worked in a range of human service and academic institutions across the country and is a highly respected and nationally known clinician, administrator and educator.
Tashel C. Bordere, Ph.D., FT Assistant Professor of Human Development and Family Science at the University of Missouri-Columbia, MO.
Her research interests include African American youth and young adult bereavement and adjustment to loss, social justice issues in loss, qualitative methods and culturally responsive programming.
Tashel is the co-editor (along with Darcy L. Harris) of the Handbook of Social Justice In Loss And Grief: Exploring Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Jennifer Kaplan, PhD, LICSW, FT
CEO & Founder, Jeffs' Place (MA) Her research includes the Inventory of Youth Adaptation to Loss (IYAL) developed to understand the feelings and social supports experienced by bereaved youth to develop an evidence-base for bereavement interventions. Dr. Kaplan is the author of You Are Not Alone: Young Adults Coping With Death.
Alesia Alexander MSW,LCSW, CT
Licensed clinical social worker in Florida, Georgia and Virginia.
Specialties: Grief and loss advocacy, youth development interventions, social engagement strategy, community organization, grassroots movements.
